Thanks to COVID-19, Singaporean students are now forced to study and attend school through their laptops at home.

However, with the occasional flock of birds squawking and the renovation noise coming from upstairs, sometimes home may not be the most conducive place to learn.

Although affordable study areas and cafés for students to study in are scattered around Singapore, free places to study are still the best option available for students.

Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre

Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre

For students living in the North, Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre might just be the free study spot you are looking for!

Located at Yishun, they are a non-profit start-up that offers a great environment including Wi-Fi, charging ports, and quiet surroundings.

The outdoor area at this Youth Centre is completely free for students to study, and the café inside is open to the public as well, in case you get hungry.

You do not have to make a booking online to enter, so head down early to grab seats at this perfect study place!


Woodlands Regional Library

Woodlands Regional Library is a conducive study place for students living in the North. Part of the National Library Board (NLB), Woodlands Regional Library consists of 5 levels, and countless seats.

With free Wi-Fi, charging points and even a Café located within the library, this is definitely an ideal study place for students. However, do remember to book your slot 2 days before heading down to study!

The LLibrary

Part of the National Library Board (NLB), The LLibrary is located inside the Lifelong Learning Institute.

A quiet study place for students who live in the East, this library offers Wi-Fi and charging points, making it a conducive environment for students to do their work.

Due to the pandemic, the public will have to book slots in order to enter any NLB Library.

However, you can still enter the library without booking any slots if maximum occupancy has not yet been reached. THE LLIBRARY is no exception, so remember to select a slot 2 days before you make your way down to study!


Our Tampines Hub

Location: 1 Tampines Walk, Singapore 528523

Tampines hub Library

Our Tampines Hub (OTH), located near Tampines MRT station, is a project by the People’s Association.

Open 24 hours, this community hub is the perfect spot for you to study with your friends overnight, or discuss a group project.

Entrance is free for the general public, and benches are scattered across the hub for students to sit down and open their books. The community space provides free Wi-Fi along with charging ports.


Study spaces in the South

Sprout Hub

SPROUT HUB is a community space built at the former Henderson Secondary School. Located along Bukit Merah, they offer many tables free for studying.

In this space, students can enjoy doing their work while being surrounded by nature, as SPROUT HUB is also home to urban farms.

This quiet study place has 5 food stalls, free Wi-Fi, as well as charging ports. Public entry is free, so head down to this peaceful community space if you enjoy studying alongside nature!

Library@esplanade is one of the more secluded libraries among the National Library Board.

Located on the third floor of the Esplanade, it provides a quiet environment with a view of Marina Bay Sands. Not only do they have tables for studying, library@esplanade offers chairs to lounge in as well, which is perfect for group discussions.

With air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and charging points, this study place is the perfect study place for students who enjoy doing their work with a view!


Study spaces in the West

Nanyang Technological University (NTU)

For students living in the west who want to experience campus life, studying at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) may be a great option for you.

Located in Jurong West, the NTU campus offers many conducive studying spots such as The Hive, The Arc, and Fine Foods @ South Spine!

NTU has no lack of charging points, and students are free to walk in. There are also several cafés around the campus if you are feeling peckish.


Bukit Panjang Library

Located in Ngee Ann City, Library@Orchard is one of the most aesthetically pleasing libraries in town.

With free Wi-Fi and a variety of spaces you can sit down to study, this study place is perfect for students who want a quiet and conducive environment to be productive. Do remember to book a slot before you head down to study!


Singapore Management University (SMU)

Singapore Management University (SMU) is another University campus that students can study in. Located between City Hall and Bras Basah MRT station, students can find benches outside to do their work.

Free for students to walk in, you can observe the vibrant student life while studying on SMU’s campus.

There are also various food outlets scattered throughout the University campus so you can grab lunch!
